District Attorney Discloses Disturbing Information in Conservative Activist Shooting
Labeled as “a US disaster,” legal authorities presented an alarming account of the accused killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
A Planned Attack
Per the district attorney’s office, Tyler Robinson had become overwhelmed with hatred for Kirk and his beliefs. Officials claim Robinson planned the killing in a little more than a week after discovering Kirk would be speaking at Utah Valley University.
Messages Uncover Confession
The state say Robinson sent his housemate messages admitting to the crime. In a particular exchange, Robinson reportedly stated, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”
“Erase this exchange,” the suspect reportedly wrote in one communication.
Murder Weapon Information
Investigators say a bolt-action rifle owned by Robinson’s grandparent was used in the shooting. The weapon was later found in a adjacent field wrapped in a towel.
Three bullets were recovered with the weapon, each engraved with inflammatory phrases.
Ideological Reasons
According to accounts from Robinson’s mother, the suspect had over the past year become increasingly ideological and begun tilting more to the left, supporting gay and trans rights.
The accused had also started dating his roommate, a man who was undergoing a gender transition, which allegedly caused tension within his family.
Arrest and Accusations
The suspect was arrested on September 12 and accused with aggravated murder. The district attorney stated they will seek the capital punishment.
Authorities indicate Robinson’s own mother recognized him from media images of the suspect and contacted authorities.
Legal Proceedings
The suspect made an initial court appearance on Tuesday, with a waiver hearing scheduled for September 29.
Prosecutors stressed that the details presented are merely allegations at this stage and recognized the grief of Kirk’s family.
“As with any homicide, the senseless ending of Charlie Kirk’s life has devastated the lives of those he cherished,” said the prosecutor.
